Format: 7 rounds FIDE-rated Rapid play
Pairing System: Swiss
Time Control: 15+10 (15 minutes per player for the entire game with 10 seconds increment from move 1)

2. Sum of Progressive Scores
3. Number of Games won with the Black Pieces
4. Buchholz Cut 1

Schedule:
• 9 am – Opening ceremony
• 9.30 am – Round 1
• 10.30 am – Round 2
• 11.30 am – Round 3
• 12.30 pm – Round 4
• 1.30 pm – Lunch break
• 2 pm – Round 5
• 3 pm – Round 6
• 4 pm – Round 7
• 5 pm – Closing ceremony

Rules & Regulations:

  1. Entry fees will not be refunded unless the tournament is postponed or cancelled so be sure that you or whoever you are registering will be able to participate on the given day.
  2. Only participants with a MCF licence for 2024 will be eligible to participate in the tournament.
  3. Only participants who have completed registration formalities by 6 pm on Saturday, 12th October 2024 will be paired in Round 1.
  4. Registration will close when the maximum capacity of 140 participants is reached, so don't wait till the last minute to register.
  5. Pairings and results of every round will be published on ChessManager.
  6. Players will be ranked in order of these ratings (if available): FIDE Rapid, FIDE Standard, or National Standard before the start of Round 1. Players with no ratings will be assigned a rating of 1400 as their National Standard rating.
  7. Play will be governed by FIDE regulations.
  8. In case of a dispute over a decision taken by an assistant arbiter or the deputy chief arbiter, the chief arbiter's decision will be final.
  9. Players must not have any electronic devices (mobile phones, tablets, Kindles, etc.) on them while their games are in progress. These can be handed over to the arbiter or kept in the player’s bag after being switched off. If a player’s phone rings in the middle of a round, he/she will immediately forfeit the game.
  10. If a player wishes to withdraw from the tournament at any stage, he/she or his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) (for juniors) must inform the Chief Arbiter before the next round is paired. If a player misses a round without informing any arbiter, he/she will not be paired in subsequent rounds.
  11. Prizes will not be shared. If players are tied on points at the end of the tournament, the tie-break systems given in the details above will be applied to declare the prize winner(s).
  12. Prize winners will receive one prize only and can choose the higher prize if they are eligible for more than one. Example: If the woman player with the best result finishes fifth overall, she can choose either the '5th Place (Overall)' prize or the '1st Place (Women)' prize. If she chooses the '5th Place (Overall)' prize, the '1st Place (Women)' prize will go to the woman player with the next best result based on total points and tie-break scores.
  13. Prize winners must be present at the closing ceremony to receive their prizes. All participants are encouraged to attend the closing ceremony.
  14. Chess boards and clocks will be provided by the organisers. Scoresheets will not be provided as this is a rapid event.
  15. Participants will receive a sandwich and bottle of water during the lunch break.

REGISTRATION

Deadline: 6 pm (1800 hrs) on Saturday, 12th October 2024
(Note: Registration will close if the maximum number of entries of 140 players is reached before the deadline.)

Fees:
• Seniors (over 18) – Rs 300
• Juniors (born on or after 01-Jan-2006) – Rs 200

(Participants will receive a sandwich and bottle of water during the lunch break.)

Process:
Step 1: Players WITHOUT a valid MCF (Mauritius Chess Federation) annual licence for 2024 must pay the licence fee of Rs 300 (for players aged over 18) or Rs 200 (for players aged 18 and under) along with the entry fee to participate in this rapid tournament.

Step 2: Pay the entry fee by bank transfer to MCB account number 000011597372.

Step 3: Send the following details with a screenshot of proof of payment by email to mcffed@gmail.com:
