Qalam Cafe Rapid Chess Tournament Regulations

1- Tournament System:
• The tournament is not FIDE-rated.
• The tournament will be conducted using the Swiss System.
• The maximum number of players is 20.
• The tournament consists of 5 rounds.
• Players will be paired randomly in the first round.

2- Time Control:
• Each player has 10 minutes with no increment.
• Each round starts at the scheduled time set by the organizer.
• A player who runs out of time loses the game unless the opponent has no possible sequence of legal moves to deliver checkmate.
• If a player makes an illegal move, the clock must be stopped, and the organizer or arbiter must be called to correct the position. After correction, the opponent will receive an additional five (5) seconds on the clock.

3- Scoring System:
• Win: 1 point.
• Draw: 0.5 point.
• Loss: 0 points.
• A player who is absent forfeits the game.

4- Tie-Break:
• In case of equal points, ranking will be determined by:
• Direct encounter.
• Buchholz (sum of opponents' scores).
• Number of wins.
• A playoff game if required.

5- Playing Rules:
• FIDE Rapid Chess Rules apply.
• Touch-move rule applies.
• Pieces must be moved using one hand only.
• A promotion piece must be chosen immediately.
• Illegal move: First time – warning and correction. Second time – loss of the game.

6- Attendance and Discipline:
• Players must arrive before the start of the round.
• Being more than 5 minutes late results in a loss.
• Disturbing players during games is prohibited.
• The decision of the organizer or arbiter is final.

7- Fair Play:
• Mobile phones and electronic devices are prohibited during games.
• Receiving outside assistance is prohibited.
• Players must respect opponents and organizers.

8- General Rules:
• Registration implies acceptance of all rules.
• The organizer may modify the schedule if necessary.
• Official FIDE Rapid Chess Rules apply in cases not mentioned.
